Rosuvastatin is indicated for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (type IIa, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia) or combined dyslipidemia (type IIb) as an adjunct to diet when the response to diet and exercise is inadequate. Rosuvastatin reduces elevated LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides and Apo8, and increases HDL cholesterol. Rosuvastatin is also indicated in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia as an adjunct to diet and other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL-Laphaeresis).
