Description
COMPOSITION :
Each caplet contains dexamethasone 0,5 mg
PHARMACOLOGY :
Pyradexon is a potent synthetic glucocorticoid which is easily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It has 20 – 25 times the
anti inflammatory potency of hydrocortisone. Dexamethasone has practically no water and salt – retaining properties and is
therefore, particularly suitable for the use in patients with cardiac failure or hypertension.
INDICATIONS :
For the treatment of allergy and inflammation condition ; also due to glucocorticoid ; allergic, dermatitis, collagen and
rheumatic, neoplastic, etc.
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Systemic fungal infections.
Herpes ocular infection.
Lactating mother.
ADVERSE REACTION :
The following adverse reactions have been associated with prolonged systemic glucocorticoid therapy : osteoporosis, gastric
ulceration, headache, impaired wound healing, increased intraocular pressure, posterior subcapsular cataracts.
Discontinuation of therapy should be undertaken by gradual reduction of dosage and be done under strict medical supervision.
Sudden discontinuation of the glucocorticoid treatment may cause : fever, mialgia, artralgia, malaise.
PRECAUTIONS :
Patients suffering from diabetes mellitus, peptic ulcer and osteoporosis require special attention.
Administration to pregnant and lactacting mother are not recommended, since the safety was not established.
Growth and development of children on prolonged therapy should be carefully observed.
Discontinuation of prolonged therapy should be carried out by gradual reduction of dosage and under strict medical
supervision, since withdrawal may result in acute exacerbation of the disease and acute adrenocortical insufficiency.
INTERACTION :
Since glucocorticoids may impair glucose tolerance, thereby increasing the need for antidiabetic drugs.
DOSAGE :
In general, the dosage depends on the severity of the condition and the response of the patient.
Usual dosage : 0,5 – 10 mg daily in divided doses or as directed by the physician.
