Description

COMPOSITION :
Each caplet contains 250 mg Mefenamic acid. Each forte caplet contains 500 mg Mefenamic acid.

ACTIONS :
Mefenamic acid is an analgesic preparation with anti-inflammatory properties. Mefenamic acid has shown antipyretic action
against a wide range of febrile condition in children and adults.

INDICATIONS :
For the relief of mild to moderate pain in acute and chronic conditions including pain of traumatic, arthritic or muscular origin,
postoperative and post-partum pain, dysmenorrhoea, menorrhagia, headache and dental pain. It is also indicated as an
antipyretic in febrile conditions.

DOSAGE :
Adults : The recommended initial dose is 500 mg, followed by 250 mg every 6 hours as required.
Dysmenorrhoea : The dosage is 500 mg 3 times a day. Therapy should be started from onset of menstruation or pain and
continued for 2-3 days.
Menorrhagia : 500 mg 3 times a day, beginning with the onset of menstrual flowand continuing for 5 days or until cessation of
flow , whichever  is less.

CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Patients showing evidence of gastrointestinal ulceration, asthmatic and kidney or liver disease and those who are
hypersensitive to mefernamic acid.

PRECAUTIONS :
Caution should be given to patients suffering from bronchospasm, allergic rhinitis, urticaria or who are taking other
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, since it may cause cross-sensitivity.
Safe use of Mefenamic acid in pregnancy and children < 14 years have not been established.
Do not use excess recommended dosage or  > 7 days without the physician’s recommendation.

SIDE EFFECTS :
Side effects are negligible at recommended dosage.
Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea have been reported on a few occasions.
Agranulocytosis and haemolytic anemia may occur on long-term continuous dosage 2000 mg or more daily.

INTERACTIONS :
Enhances effects of coumarin anticoagulants.

STORAGE :
Keep in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure from direct sunlight.
