BPOM Inaugurates Ethica Industri Farmasi’s Injection Production Facility, PYFA Ready to Fulfill National Sterile Drug Demand
CIKARANG, June 4, 2026 – The Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., Ph.D., officially inaugurated the Line 3 Sterile Injection Production Facility and Warehouse owned by PT Ethica Industri Farmasi, a subsidiary of PT Pyridam Farma Tbk (IDX: PYFA). The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Ethica factory in Cikarang. This strategic milestone was also attended by key officials from BPOM, the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the Indonesian Pharmaceutical Association (GP Farmasi), and the Board of Directors of PYFA.
The construction of Line 3, which was completed within 1.5 years since 2024, is designed to address the growing national demand for sterile injection drugs, particularly for hospital services and government health programs. The new facility is engineered to triple its production capacity compared to Lines 1 and 2, adhering to the standards of Good Manufacturing Practices (CPOB), EU Good Manufacturing Practices (EU GMP), and the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
During the inauguration of PT Ethica Industri Farmasi’s Line 3, the Head of BPOM emphasized the Government’s concrete steps in maintaining supply chain stability and the resilience of the national pharmaceutical industry amidst Rupiah exchange rate pressures and global geopolitical uncertainties. The national availability of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) is currently confirmed to be secure for the next 6 to 12 months. As a medium-term mitigation strategy, the government and the industry are actively diversifying supply chains to alternative countries that are not directly impacted by current geopolitical tensions. BPOM has issued three official decrees along with several circulars specifically designed to support the resilience of the national drug supply, including measured regulatory relaxations, streamlined licensing facilities, and the strengthening of pharmaceutical distribution networks.
“What is important is that Ethica Farma is one of our proud national industries. Why is it something to be proud of? Because its operations date back to 1946, meaning it has been around for 79 years. Secondly, it focuses heavily on producing generic drugs, which automatically provides immense help to our people, as they are commonly utilized by BPJS. Therefore, we provide our support in the context of future expansion, where we hope Ethica Farma Indonesia can increasingly expand its international and global reach. Thus, our national pharmaceutical independence can be achieved,” stated Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., Ph.D., Head of BPOM.
The key differentiators of Line 3 are its specialization and scalability. The presence of Line 3 yields a significantly larger production volume, enabling the Company to fulfill long-term demands from Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) partners. Furthermore, the increasingly mature National Health Insurance (JKN) ecosystem has driven domestic demand for sterile preparations to consistently surge. Consequently, approximately 97% of Ethica’s production consists of generic sterile injections intended to meet the needs of the Indonesian public, the majority of which is absorbed by the BPJS Kesehatan ecosystem. Line 3 stands as proof that Indonesia is capable of independently manufacturing global-standard sterile injection preparations, reducing reliance on imports, and serving as a tangible manifestation of support for national pharmaceutical independence.
“The presence of Line 3 provides a much larger production volume, allowing us to reach a broader market while absorbing more demand from our Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) partners. Today is not merely the inauguration of a production facility; it is a statement that the Indonesian pharmaceutical industry is ready to stand on par with global standards, and PYFA is committed to being at the forefront of that statement,” asserted Lee Yan Gwan.
Looking ahead, PYFA has devised an aggressive, sustainable manufacturing roadmap through the preparatory development of Line 4 and Line 5. Physical construction for Lines 4 and 5 is currently underway with a distinct portfolio focus, specifically regarding the types of pharmaceutical preparations to be produced.
The Company asserts that every strategic investment step is executed by applying prudent principles and ensuring strict compliance with all regulatory provisions, to foster healthy, sustainable business growth and deliver added value to its shareholders.
