Protect Your Body from Hantavirus: PYFA Medical Expert Shares Vitamin Recommendations to Boost Immunity

JAKARTA, May 21 2026 – Amid growing public concern over the spread of Hantavirus, PT Pyridam Farma Tbk (IDX: PYFA) is urging the public to strengthen their immune systems by adopting a healthy lifestyle and proper vitamin supplementation as essential preventive measures. Optimally fulfilling daily nutritional needs is key to ensuring the immune system functions at its best to provide comprehensive protection against the risk of viral infections.

According to reports from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI), a total of 23 Hantavirus cases have been recorded across nine provinces from 2023 to May 2026, with the highest number of cases found in the DKI Jakarta area. Cases in Indonesia are generally caused by the Seoul virus infection, which is typically transmitted through exposure to the urine or feces of infected rats. Patients often exhibit early clinical symptoms resembling the flu, such as fever and body aches.

In general, Hantavirus is a family of RNA viruses carried by rodents, especially rats, and can cause severe respiratory or renal diseases. Transmission most commonly occurs through the inhalation of airborne particles contaminated with dried rat urine, saliva, or droppings, particularly in enclosed spaces such as warehouses, old houses, or areas that have not been cleaned for a prolonged period. Although most types of Hantavirus do not transmit from human to human, the Andes virus is known to be a rare exception, with limited transmission possible through close and prolonged contact.

The initial symptoms of Hantavirus often resemble common viral infections, including fever, muscle aches, headaches, nausea, fatigue, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Under certain conditions, the disease can rapidly progress to serious complications in the lungs or kidneys. Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS/HCPS) is known to have a mortality rate of around 30–40%, while Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) ranges from 1–15%, depending on the virus strain.

Responding to this situation, dr. Carlinda Nekawaty, Medical Expert at PYFA, explained that maintaining overall health requires a comprehensive approach built on four main pillars: regular exercise, balanced nutrition, adequate rest, and proper supplementation. According to her, supplementation is a crucial aspect in helping to fulfill micronutrient needs that are often unmet by daily food consumption alone.

“Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant vanguard that helps protect body tissues from inflammation-induced damage. Its consumption should be combined with Vitamin D3, which helps activate T cells in the immune system, especially since many people unknowingly suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. Zinc also helps maintain cellular defense functions and supports the body in inhibiting viral replication so that the infection does not spread further,” said dr. Carlinda Nekawaty.

In addition to focusing on supplementation, the public is also encouraged to stay active or exercise regularly for at least 150 minutes per week, consume a well-balanced diet, and ensure adequate sleep to allow for optimal physical recovery. Maintaining environmental hygiene is another vital step, particularly by sealing off entry points for rats, storing food in airtight containers, and cleaning areas exposed to rat droppings using disinfectants and personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks. It is strongly advised not to dry-sweep or vacuum contaminated areas, as this can increase the risk of aerosolizing virus particles into the air.

Through this health education initiative, it is hoped that the public will better understand the importance of consistently maintaining their health through a healthy lifestyle and proper nutritional intake. By strictly adhering to these preventive measures, people can protect their own health as well as their families’, allowing them to go about their daily activities safely. As a practical and reliable extra layer of protection, vitamin and mineral supplementation to fulfill nutritional needs can be obtained from PYFAHEALTH.
